Gateway EC14D

The Gateway EC14D is an ultra portable notebook which has a ULV CPU (not atom, Intel SU4100) and now a built-in DVD optical drive. Gateway already has an 11.6-inch EC18 that is almost exactly the same as this but without the DVD drive. I think it is an absolutely amazing laptop. These EC series gateway’s mini laptops are the same as the Acer Timeline 1410/1810 as well.  This newest 11.6-inch ultraportable laptop also features an 11.6-inch display with 1,366 x 768 pixel HD resolution, 1.3 GHz of Intel Pentium ULV Processor SU4100 with Mobile Intel GS45 Express Chipset, Intel Media Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD, 4GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive. Of course, it packs 8x Super-Multi DVD Player and HDMI, 3 USB 2.0 port and 6-cell battery. It will be available for $630 with 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium.

 Lenovo IdeaPad U1

Lenovo IdeaPad U1 11.6-inch mini laptop: That is unbelievably cool looking! We’ve got some more details on Lenovo’s IdeaPad U1 Hybrid Tablet. Intriguingly, the IdeaPad U1 supports Intel Core 2 Duo SU processor and Qualcomm ARM Snapdragon processor. This means that the IdeaPad U1 uses two different operating systems – Windows 7 when in laptop mode and a Linux-based system as a tablet. Additional specs include an 11.6″ LED-backlit display, Wireless, Bluetooth and 3G. It is expected to cost around $1,000 on release. I think the price point is quite reasonable, given that it is both a fully functioning laptop and a tablet.
